Butterfly Board – my portable whiteboard!

If you like conveying ideas and concepts through drawing, then this is for you!

It’s been a few months now that I found this through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, and ever since I saw the video I fell in love with the idea. You can watch the pitch video below.

The concept

It’s quite simple: you get 4 A4 size sheet’s of reinforced cardboard that acts as a whiteboard. But the twist is they have added magnetic bands on the edge of the pages, which means you can put them together to either expand to A3, and with some blu tag, A2.

You can also fold them into a re-writeable book, which is my favourite mode, and allows you to take notes and write down several concepts, meetings or ideas simultaneously.

They work wonders for sketching workflows, processes, ecosystems, but also for wireframes and prototypes. We did a white-boarding session @IBM a few weeks ago and the natural place to evolve the ideas over a pint was with this new toy!

The Markers

Another key thing are the markers that come with it. Three thick ones and one fine writing one, which allows you to bump up the details in your drawings and sketches.

Examples & gallery

Here’s some of my drawings on the first weeks of use. It is now an indispensable item on my bag (of tricks)!
